Snarkology Halloween Hop #giveaway

CONGRATULATIONS TO JOELY B. FOR WINNING THE FREE COPY OF
THE CASE OF THE BYGONE BROTHER.

This time of year is especially fun. Now I'm not crazy about scary stuff. I really do not like scary books or movies. And forget roller coasters. Even Ferris wheels give me the willies. But I love the cold nights and warm days, the brilliance of maple and poplar leaves, the smell of woodburning fireplaces. Baseball World Series is only a favorite event if the Detroit Tigers are playing. Second best is the St. Louis Cardinals (Mom was from St. Louis and her mom took me to my first baseball game at Busch Stadium). Football isn't my thing, but I will sort of watch Michigan State play. If my family reads this, they will disown me since they're avid U of M fans.

But the most fun of this time of year is watching the kids come trick-or-treating. The costumes are so much fun. At our old house, a neighbor dressed their dachshund in a hot dog costume. The noise of kids and ringing doorbells would drive our dogs nuts so Hubs and I would sit in lawn chairs at the edge of our open garage door to hand out candy.

What's your favorite thing about this time of year?

I'm giving away an ecopy of my newest release, a PI mystery titled THE CASE OF THE BYGONE BROTHER (An Alex O'Hara Novel) that will be released on Thursday, October 30th. As you can tell from the cover, the story  takes place in the fall. This is the first of a new series featuring a private investigator in a fictitious small resort town on Lake Michigan. Alex O'Hara gets into scrapes as well as danger as she hunts for a missing relative.

Here's the blurb:

Alex O’Hara finally gets a case that will give her bottom line a much needed boost. She might even be able to change her diet from ramen noodles to prime rib. All she has to do is track down a man who’s been missing for over ten years. Piece of cake . . . until an old flame arrives and a mugger roughs her up with orders to back off.

Meet Blake Herro from 30 SECONDS by Chrys Fey

Okay, folks, we're in for a real treat today. Chrys Fey has agreed to let me interview the male lead in her romantic suspense 30 SECONDS. If ever there as a hero properly named, it's Blake Herro. Let's see what he has to say for himself.

Welcome, Blake. Please introduce yourself for those who haven’t met you yet.

Well, I have only appeared in one of Chrys Fey’s books, 30 Seconds, but she’s telling me that I may appear in another story, so that sounds promising. Anyway...Hi, everyone! My name is Blake Herro and I am a police officer for Cleveland, Ohio. I went undercover in the Mob and put my life, as well as an innocent woman’s life, in danger. I hadn’t meant to, but Dr. Dani Hart just happened to stumble into my mess.

A police officer, huh? So what was your first thought when you met Dani Hart?

I thought she was going to get herself killed. Of course she didn’t know there were armed mobsters in the building, but she didn’t help herself when she made all of that racket and alerted the mobsters to her presence. I serve and protect the people, so of course I had to do something to save her. How, you ask? I tackled her. Do you blame me?

I think the jury is out on that one. Why did you fall for Dani?

How could I not? And believe me when I say I tried to ignore my feelings. I’m cop first, and a man second, but Dani is unique. She loves rock music, horror movies, and she can handle whatever the Mob throws at her. That’s my kind of woman!

She certainly sounds like a woman of steel. Why did you choose your occupation?

There was never a doubt that I would be a police officer. People say certain professions are their callings, and that’s what joining the police force was to me...a calling. And with the Mob boss, Red, wrecking havoc on Cleveland, I knew I had to do something to stop him and his motley crew.

Do you have any hobbies?

Sure, I do. Although I’m not a chef, I like to cook. Dani was surprised to find me at the stove so often. *chuckles*

Thanks, Blake. Now here's more about his story.

Blurb:
When Officer Blake Herro agreed to go undercover in the Mob, he thought he understood the risks. But he's made mistakes and now an innocent woman has become their target. He's determined to protect her at all costs.

The Mob's death threat turns Dr. Dani Hart's life upside down, but there is one danger she doesn’t anticipate. As she's dodging bullets, she's falling in love with Blake. With danger all around them, will she and Blake survive and have a happy ending, or will the Mob make good on their threat?

Excerpt:
She panted with fear. What if they see the chest? What if we get caught? What if my breath stinks and I’m breathing right into Officer Hottie’s face? She shut her mouth and let oxygen flow through her nose.
Her eyesight slowly adjusted to the darkness and she could see Officer Herro’s silhouette. His head was turned and he was listening to the thuds of heavy boots getting louder; the intruders were coming their way.
Then the thunder of footsteps sounded right next to them. “There’s no one here, Red,” someone announced.
“Look for documents,” a man ordered, who Dani could only assume was Red. “I want the name of the person I’m going to kill.”
A moment later, there was a reply. “All the mail is addressed to a Dr. Hart.”
Hearing her name said aloud by one of the men who had ransacked her place made her want to gasp. Her mouth fell open and her breath was reversing into her lungs, but before she could make a sound, Officer Herro lowered his lips to hers, silencing her. Stunned, she could only lie beneath him with her eyes wide and her body tense. She couldn’t believe he was kissing her. She wanted to push him back, but knew if she did he might hit the inside of the chest, giving away their hiding place. That was when she realized he was kissing her so she wouldn’t gasp.
She let her body relax. After her initial shock faded, she was able to feel his lips. They were comforting and caused a reaction deep inside her. She couldn’t stop her lips from reacting to his. It was an innocent connection, a soft touch of lips. Until his hand slid from her shoulder to her neck and the kiss deepened into something else.
