#IWSG: Short & Savvy

IWSG is the brainchild of Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh Thanks, Alex, for starting this group and keeping it going. And thanks to this month's awesome hosts Suzanne Furness, Tonja Drecker, Toi Thomas, Rachna Chhabria, Fundy Blue, and Donna Hole!

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Since the A to Z Challenge begins today, I'll make my post short and hopefully savvy. I'm going to quote the first two sentences from Bob Mayer's post last week on the Basics of Being a Successful Author.

  • Write a lot.
  •  Before writing a lot, be a voracious reader.
That about says it all. If you're interested in the rest of his post, click here.

Have a great day! No fooling.

  1. Two great basic points - but the two most important...and hardest??? :)

    1. Absolutely the hardest. Making time for both is a challenge.

  2. Woo! Love a short post :) And those are both so true!
    Happy IWSG Day!

    1. That's probably the shortest post I've ever written. :)

  10. Yep. I tell my students those all the time (esp. when they complain about why they have to read and write so much for class ...)

    1. What do kids know? LOL I'm glad I love to read. I'm always carving out time even if it's a couple of chapters before I go to sleep.

  11. I'm cool with short and sweet posts today. Especially when it's good advice like that.

  12. You brought a big smile to my face with your brief, but spot on, post, Diane! Have fun with the A to Z Challenge!

    1. Thanks, Fundy Blue. I'm not doing A to Z. Too much on my plate this year. If you are, have fun.

    2. My misinterpretation! I'm not doing it either for the same reason. I bookmarked the rest of the post you linked yours to. I think it has great info that I want to read thoroughly when my eyes are less tired. Co-hosting yesterday was lots of fun, but my eyes are definitely tired from so much screen reading. Good luck with cleaning you plate!

    3. I know what you mean about the eyes. I've been proofing a book (again) to put up on CreateSpace for the print edition. Reading something on paper sure makes you find the mistakes. Argh.

  13. I like short and simple and those two thing I can do!

    1. You told us to make the posts short this month. :) Just obeying Captain Ninja.

  14. I love the short and sweet also but those two pieces of advice really say it all!

  15. Wow, you did way better with the short and sweet than I did, Diane! I tried and failed miserably.

I'll have to show that article to my boyfriend, who's convinced that my reading is "just for fun" and has nothing to do with my day job.

  16. Diane,
That really does say it all! I was wondering if anyone was going to do an April Fools. I'm still only partway through the posts so the day is yet young!
