#IWSG: Why I Write What I Write and Release Day for Well of Ash

Happy Insecure Writer's Support Group Day. IWSG is the brainchild of Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh.

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds! Thanks, Alex, for starting this group and keeping it going. We are rockin' the neurotic writing world!

The awesome co-hosts for the November 4 posting of the IWSG are  Jemi Fraser, Kim Lajevardi, L.G Keltner, Tyrean Martinson, and Rachna Chhabria!

November's optional question is "Why do you write what you write?"

I write science fiction romance, romantic suspense, and cozy mysteries. I write romance because I believe in happy ever after. Having been married for 48 years (on Thanksgiving Day), I know that any time two people live together there are bound to be disagreements, compromise, good times and difficult ones. The honeymoon does not go on forever. In the end, two people have to work together for that happy ever after. It is possible.

I write science fiction because I believe humans will travel farther into space than we have so far. I believe we are not the only sentient beings in this universe. We will meet them. Hopefully, we will treat them better than we treat our own "aliens" (those who are different from us). I hope we will treat them with respect. Another hope is that they will treat us with respect.

In all my books, you will find elements of mystery and suspense. I write what I enjoy reading. I also love series. Watching the characters as they evolve is fun as both a reader and a writer.

One of the series I've enjoyed reading is Elle Cardy's (our own Lynda Young) Wielder's Storm series. So, when I learned she had a new book coming out, I was thrilled to be ask to share a little bit about Well of Ash. Isn't that a fantastic cover? Best of all, today is Release Day.

No one knows who built the Great Wells across the world or why. To linger near makes the skin crawl and the mind drift in nightmares. Yet this one calls to Ash in whispers that pull her closer. Soon she’s caught in a mystery that can kill. She must find the answers before she loses her sanity and her life.

If you like dragons, magic, and a fierce heroine with a wounded heart, then you’ll love Well of Ash, a YA Fantasy novella by Elle Cardy. Available now as an ebook and paperback on Amazon. OR, for a limited time, pick up a free copy when you join Elle’s VIP newsletter club.

I don't know about people traveling farther into space but I do love Science Fiction like the Star Trek Voyager series.
Wishing you all the best and have a beautiful 48th wedding anniversary.

    1. Thanks for the anniversary wishes, Pat. I like to think readers find my stories are like Star Trek--an adventure that takes place in space or on a planet similar to ours.

  3. I LOVE your stories, Di! Diversity gives us new worlds to explore but it all comes down to the basics - people we believe in and a plot that carries us along for a wonderful ride!

    1. Thanks, Tyrean. I hope we do travel farther. Probably not in my lifetime. Maybe my grandkids will see or do it.

  8. I'm sure you're right about our species making very long journeys into other galaxies. And we'll probably do it much sooner than any of us can imagine.

    1. I agree, Lee. It just seems so long since humans walked on the moon, yet we've not gone farther. Soon, I hope.

    1. It usually does, Arlee. When I have difficulty with one story, I try a different genre. That usually works.

  12. Well done on 48 years together, Diane! That is an accomplishment! I believe humanity's future is in the stars. We've seen some amazing things over the past decades. I hope to live long enough to see the first colonies on the moon and Mars. I like a story with a happy ending. I don't care if the characters go through hell to get there ~ Just get there! Have a wonderful anniversary and Thanksgiving!

Congrats to Lynda. I just did a literal head-slap when I realized that was her new release I'm seeing all over the blogosphere. I need some caffeine.
